Privacy
Your information, handled the way introductions deserve.
We ask you for sensitive things — identity documents, your circumstances, your hopes. This page sets out exactly what we hold, why, who sees it, and your rights over it, in plain language.
Who we are
[Company name], a company registered in England and Wales (company number [NUMBER]) with its registered office at [ADDRESS], is the data controller for the personal information described on this page. We are registered with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (registration [ICO NUMBER]) and with Uganda's Personal Data Protection Office (registration [PDPO NUMBER]).
Questions about this policy, or any request about your information, go to a named person, not a queue: [NAME], at [EMAIL].
What we collect, and why
| What | Why we hold it |
|---|---|
| Application details — name, age, contact details, location, and what you tell us about yourself and what you are looking for | To assess your application and, if you become a member, to represent you honestly in introductions. Legal basis: taking steps to enter, and then performing, our membership agreement with you. |
| Identity documents — passport or national ID | To verify that every member is who they say they are. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in preventing fraud and protecting members, and your consent to the verification itself. |
| Single-status evidence — declarations, and where relevant decrees absolute or equivalent | To confirm that every member is legally free to marry before any introduction is proposed. Legal basis: as above. |
| Interview notes and matchmaker notes | To make careful, suitable introductions — the heart of the service. Legal basis: performing our membership agreement. |
| Faith, and health or family circumstances where you choose to share them | Only ever to match you well and represent you truthfully. This is special category data: we hold it solely with your explicit consent, which you may withdraw at any time. |
| Correspondence with us, and reports or concerns raised by or about members | To run the service safely and investigate breaches of our standards. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in member safety; legal obligation where a matter involves law enforcement. |
We do not collect anything we do not need, we never use your information for advertising, and we never sell it — to anyone, for anything.
Who sees it
Your file is seen by our vetting and matchmaking team, and no one else. When an introduction is proposed, the other member sees a written introduction — prepared by us, and only with your consent to being introduced. Your identity documents are never shown to other members.
Like any modern service, we use a small number of service providers to operate — secure hosting, communications, and payment processing for UK membership fees. Each acts only on our instructions, under contract, and none may use your information for its own purposes. A current list is available on request.
We disclose information to police or other authorities only where the law requires it or where it is necessary to protect a member from serious harm — and, wherever lawful, we tell you when that happens.
Where it goes
Because the service operates between the United Kingdom and East Africa, your information moves between our UK operation and our team in Uganda. Wherever it is, it is protected to the same standard, under contractual safeguards that meet UK international transfer requirements [confirm mechanism with counsel: IDTA / addendum] and the transfer provisions of Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019.
How long we keep it
| Situation | Retention |
|---|---|
| Application declined, or you withdraw | Deleted within [6] months of the decision, save a minimal record that an application was made and declined, kept to protect members [confirm period with counsel]. |
| Active membership | Held for the life of your membership. |
| Membership ends | Deleted within [12] months, save records we must keep for legal, accounting or safety reasons [confirm periods with counsel]. |
| Identity documents | Copies deleted once verification is complete and recorded; we keep the fact of verification, not the document, wherever possible [confirm approach with counsel]. |
| Removal for fraud or a safety concern | A record is kept for as long as necessary to protect members from the person removed. |
Your rights
Under UK data protection law and Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act you may ask us: what we hold about you, and for a copy of it; to correct anything inaccurate; to delete information we no longer need; to restrict or object to how we use it; and to withdraw any consent you have given, at any time, without affecting anything done before you withdrew.
Write to [NAME] at [EMAIL] and we respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our answer, you may complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or to Uganda's Personal Data Protection Office (pdpo.go.ug) — though we would ask for the chance to put things right first.
How we protect it
Information is held in encrypted systems with access limited to the team members who need it, protected by strong authentication, and reviewed as the service grows. Paper collected at in-person interviews is digitised and securely destroyed. No system is beyond all risk — if a breach ever put you at risk, we would tell you and the relevant regulator promptly, as the law requires.
Three things we will never do
We will never sell your information. We will never use it for advertising. And we will never share your membership with anyone — including your family — without your say-so.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in any way that matters, we tell members directly before the change takes effect — not by quietly editing a page. The date at the top always tells you which version you are reading.
This service is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information about anyone under 18, and any such information found is deleted.
